April 2026
We attacked some more gorse this month at two different locations – KR 22 and KR 15. The ground remains very dry, hardly touched by the little rain we had earlier in the month. And while we wait for some winter rains it’s also the case that there are a lot of interesting seasonal changes underway amongst the wildlife and plants of Knocklofty. The first scarlet robins and currawongs have come down from the mountains. I heard that some young bandicoots have left their pouches, and some of the eucalypts are flowering and attracting flocks of parrots (can you tell the difference between the musk lorikeets and possible swift parrots?).
In admin news, Hobart City Council has a new registration system for volunteers (across all sectors), and the Bushcare Team have asked each of us to register on this new system. The two activities in May are both on the power-line wayleave - see the ‘Activities’ page for details.
