February 2025

We started the year on a beautiful day by working on the summit at KR 11 looking for Spanish Heath in particular. This weed was difficult to find, and it wasn’t until we had almost finished that Jeff Dunn found a significant infestation. We are very fortunate that Jeff returned over another two days and removed all this weed. It was also great to see some of the ‘brave little plants’ of the Reserve in flower like the bulbines (Bulbine glauca), hill daisies (Brachycome aculata), and native cranberry (Astroloma humifusum).

We started our second activity for month at the Poet’s Rd entrance to the Reserve and weeded mostly hemlock around KR 21 and KR 21c. The highlight of the morning was a celebration morning coffee to mark Astrid Wright’s 17 years of service as the Convenor of the Friends of Knocklofty! Claire Knowles, Bushcare Coordinator at the Hobart City Council brought a beautiful chocolate cake which was enjoyed by all, and presented Astrid with a gift of appreciation for all he incredible work.
