March 2025

This month both of our activities took place along the Weerona Fire Trail. On March 6 we weeded above the trail taking out small gorse seedlings and larger thistles. On March 20 we weeded in the gully taking out swathes of forget-me-knots. Both sites were very dry but there was plenty of invertebrate life in the earth and leaf mould. Nests of jack jumpers, jewel bugs and the last of the little brown butterflies as well as a scorpion and a snake were all seen out and about. Given that these animals and insects are active during the warmer months, it’s probably a good idea for all who use the Reserve to take care and keep an eye out until the cooler weather sets in around May.
